Admiral Rodney HMS Formidable Rum

Part of the brand’s Battle of the Saintes series, the Admiral Rodney HMS Formidable Rum is named after Rodney’s flagship in said battle and offers a rich blend of flavors that are as steadfast as the ship that lent it its name. Each batch of this rum is crafted from a selection of rums distilled from Guyanese molasses using a 45-plate Coffey still and then aged for 9 to 12 years aged in ex-bourbon American white oak casks. The rums are then meticulously married to achieve the desired taste and texture before being brought to proof with pristine water and finally bottled.

Nose: Dark golden brown in color, each sip of this rum begins with an enticing nose consisting of generous helpings of mint supported by notes of toffee, milk chocolate, walnut, honey, spice, and oak.

Palate: This is then immediately followed by a balanced and harmonious palate of sweet sultanas, more honey, cinnamon, vanilla, sweet caramel, cocoa beans, tobacco, and more toasty oak.

Finish: A rich, long-lasting finish of sweet spice notes.

Distillery Information

Established in 1972, St Lucia Distillers was born out of the merger of the last remaining distilleries on the Caribbean eventually making a name for themselves with their massive collection of expressions spread across multiple brands. One the more prestigious names in their catalog is Admiral Rodney – a series of super-premium rum expressions named after famed British naval officer George Brydges Rodney, the 1st Baron Rodney, who is renowned for his actions in North America and the Caribbean. In keeping with their namesake, each expression is named after a ship that Rodney either commanded or was part of his flotilla during his battles with this inaugural release being inspired by the Battle of the Saintes.
