Alta Vista is an Argentinian wine estate with vineyards in Mendoza and Salta. It was founded in 1998 and is owned by the d'Aulan family, the former owners of the Piper-Heidsieck Champagne house. The winery is located 9 miles (15km) south of Mendoza city in a 19th Century building fitted out with modern facilities. The property holdings consists of multiple vineyards throughout the Luján de Cuyo and Valle de Uco wine regions, planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Chardonnay amoungst others. Alta Vista hold strong principles in sourcing grapes from single vineyards to allow for the optimal expression of terroir in wine. It began a comparison study on single vineyard terroir in 2007. With foundings from this study and with the National Institute of Viticulture the labelling of registered vineyards on labels was authorized. Alta Vista's top wine is the Alto cuvée which combines Malbec with Cabernet Sauvignon, aged separately for 14 months in new French oak barrels. The portfolio also features a trio of single-vineyard Malbecs: Alizarine, Serenade and Temis, and the Terroir Selection which combines grapes sourced from five different vineyards. All are aged for 12 months in new French oak. In 2012, Alta Vista also established the Altamana winery in the Maule Valley region of Chile.
