"The Dictador rum story began with Severo Arango y Ferro, an 18th-century Spanish official nicknamed "El Dictador" for his forceful nature in collecting taxes in Cartagena, Colombia. His descendant, Don Julio Arango y Parra, founded Destileria Colombiana in 1913, which is the origin of the Dictador rum brand. Today, it is a third-generation family-run business that produces luxury aged rums in Cartagena, utilizing the region's ideal climate and fertile soil for sugarcane cultivation. "
