A really rather exciting release from Springbank here! This Cmapbeltown single malt was initially matured in a intriguing combo of rum and bourbon barrels, before being moved over to fresh Madeira hogsheads for a three-year-long finishing. It's not going to be every day you see a whisky having that kind of maturation! Just 9,200 bottles were produced.
Springbank 17 Years Old Madeira Wood Tasting Notes
Nose: A delightful marriage of meaty and spicy aromas, accented by a rich and sweet fruitiness.
Palate: An initially drying note of salt and stone makes way for a blooming expansion of flavor as this reaches the midpalate.
Finish: Mouth is otherwise coated with a gently smoky heat through the finish, which also reincorprorates some of the drying minerality.
Distillery Information
The Springbank distillery is a family-owned single malt whisky distillery on the Kintyre Peninsula in western Scotland. It is owned by J & A Mitchell & Company, who also owns the Glengyle Distillery, the oldest independent bottler, William Cadenheads, and several blended scotch labels.
