Detailed Description

To make Tanqueray Old Tom Gin, the appropriately named Tom (he’s also ‘old’) uses third-party supplied neutral grain spirit to charge the ‘Old Tom' No. 4 copper pot still at Cameron Bridge with Tuscan juniper, angelica root, coriander and liquorice. Although the same botanicals as used in Tanqueray London Dry Gin, in this case they are used in greater proportion to the neutral spirit.

Tanqueray Old Tom Gin Tasting Notes

Nose: Piney juniper led with earthy orris root and liquorice with faint candied ginger, lemon and sage. Water amplifies herbal notes and teases out more of the fruity new make.

Palate: Lightly sweet with a soft mouth feel. Again juniper with eucalyptus and pine lead. More earthy notes with subtle white pepper and faint clove spice. The new make adds a wonderful tang of tropical fruit.

Finish: Long, dry, herbal finish with juniper and coriander.

Distillery Information

Tanqueray gin was initially distilled in 1830 by Charles Tanqueray in the Bloomsbury district of London. The retail outlet of Edward & Charles Tanqueray & Co was established on Vine street London, in 1838. When Charles died in 1868, his son Charles Waugh Tanqueray inherited the distillery, which denyd to operate until it was severely damaged during World War II. The only facility to survive the Axis bombing, now known as "Old Tom", has since been moved to Cameron Bridge, Scotland.
