Melted road tar, graphite, pencil shavings and black currants are all supported by clean veins of minerality and acidity. Violet and menthol overtones appear later, adding further complexity to the long, delineated finish.

• Wine Enthusiast: Firm tannins and good acidity mark this 100% Cabernet, which, like all Hall wines, is high in alcohol yet balanced. It’s deep and long in blackberry jam, mocha and new-oak flavors. This is appealing now for its sheer drinkability and deliciousness, but its inherent subtleties will become increasingly apparent with age.

• Wine Spectator: Rich and complex, with a firm tannin-cloaked mix of black licorice, dark berry, cigar box and tobacco. This is a sizeable wine, yet very graceful and elegant, long and persistent.
