      Detailed Description

Eastside is Aubert's only Russian River AVA Chardonnay. Located on a hill overlooking the expanses of the Russian River Valley, these vines grow on the rockiest of sites; a distinguishing aspect of its terroir. The rare Chardonnay clonal selection is matched to this low vigor site, equating to a remarkably powerful, yet delicately elegant wine.
The 2015 Eastside Chardonnay is uncanny in its ability to represent the stony soils of its origin. This wine is like gravel candy to the Chardonnay lover’s sweet tooth. Please note the greenish hue on the edge of the glass, which is indicative of the health of the wine. Strong aromas of pungent minerals and dried stone fruit grab your attention. Flavors expand to lime zest, herb oils and green apple cider. The combination of minerality and acidity makes this long and lip-smacking. The wine is slightly hazy showing our commitment to minimal intervention winemaking.

      Reviews:

      • Wine Advocate: The 2015 Chardonnay Eastside Vineyard exudes butterscotch, allspice, baked pears and peach preserves with tantalizing honeycomb, salted caramel and popcorn hints. This rich, full-bodied powerhouse fills the palate with decadent, spicy stone fruit, marked by a refreshing line of acid and finishing with lingering wet pebble and savory hints.
      • Vinous: The 2015 Chardonnay Eastside Vineyard preserves good freshness and aromatic lift, especially for the year. In this tasting, the Eastside presents more of a phenolic character than most of the Chardonnays, with the fruit pushed into the background, while floral/savory/mineral notes are front and center. Of all of these Chardonnays, the Eastside shows the effects of its recent bottling most. At the same time, the rocky nature of this site really comes through in the wine's feel.

      Producer Information

Aubert is a small Chardonnay and Pinot Noir estate that makes wine from single-vineyard sites in Napa Valley and Sonoma. It was founded by Mark and Teresa Aubert in 1999, and today, is considered to be one of California's cult producers.
The first vintage of Aubert was in 2000 – a Chardonnay sourced from the Ritchie Vineyard in Russian River Valley. It quickly received acclaim for its full-blown, hedonistic style and was pivotal for company's success. Although the vineyard is no longer within the company's holdings, the Burgundian syle in which the Ritchie Vineyard Chardonnay was produced, remains as the production style throughout the wine portfolio. The chardonnay wines are barrel-fermented and aged in French oak, a majority of which is new.
Aubert's portfolio has since expanded to an array of single-vineyard Chardonnay and Pinot Noir wines, sourced from multiple vineyard sites in Russian River and Rutherford as well as Napa and Sonoma. Each wine in Aubert's portfolio is named after the parcel of vineyard from which it is sourced and production is extremely limited. The Lauren vineyard is eight acres (3.2 hectares) of Chardonnnay, named after the founder's daughter and was the first estate vineyard of Aubert. Today, the compnay counts over ten different vineyards within its holdings.
