The wine is a crystal-clear garnet red with violet highlights. The fresh and elegant nose exudes ripe morello cherry aromas, followed by subtle notes of licorice and toast to complete a rich and complex yet light and airy bouquet. Initially refined and silky, the palate gathers power on finely chiseled tannins wrapped in crisp flavors of red fruit, dark chocolate and dried flowers. The rich and harmonious palate leads into a stylish and succulent finish with a slightly minty freshness.

• Wine Advocate: medium garnet-purple colored 2015 Clerc Milon opens with expressive crushed blackberries, red and black plums and cigar boxes notions with suggestions of dried herbs, earth and violets plus a waft of dark chocolate. Medium-bodied, fine, fresh and elegant, it has a lovely core of very pure red and black fruits, supported by finely textured tannins and finishing on a lingering perfumed note.

• James Suckling: Extremely floral with blackberry and blueberry character plus hints of violets. Full-bodied yet always in check and reserve with fine tannins and bright acidity that goes on for minutes. Limestone undertones. The finish is particularly long this vintage.

Producer Information

Château Clerc Milon is a wine estate in the Pauillac appellation of the Haut-Médoc region north of Bordeaux city, on the so-called "left bank" of the Gironde estuary. It was rated a fifth growth in the 1855 Classification of the Médoc and Graves. Clerc Milon's Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant wine is known for its supple texture and is regarded as something of a bargain for the appellation. The estate vineyard covers 41 hectares (101 acres) of vines in the northeast of Pauillac, between the Mouton Rothschild and Lafite Rothschild properties on a crest overlooking the Gironde estuary. The soil is predominantly made up of sandy clay over a clay-limestone base, and a slight slope helps with drainage. The Clerc Milon vineyard also benefits from the close proximity of the estuary, whose large body of water helps to moderate the local climate. Five grape varieties are planted in the Clerc Milon vineyard: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc with tiny plots of Petit Verdot and Carmenère. Grapes are hand-picked, and each parcel of vines may have three passes to optimise quality. In 2007, a new gravity-fed vat room with 40 stainless steel tanks was installed, followed by a humidity-controlled barrel room in 2011. Clerc Milon wines are aged for 16 to 18 months in 40 percent new oak barrels.
