Amazingly harmonious. Warm but lively, elegant, precise, with an astonishingly acidic frankness: still sedimentary mouthfeel, but with the precision of a scalpel. The acidity is major, broad angular, tanning the mucous membrane. The vitality is extraordinary, which comes to transcend the density, a form of silky accomplishment. Very great length on this particular floury sweetness, transcended by a dagger-like vivacity.

• Anne Krebiehl: With rich notions of cream, baked apple and apple crumble, the nose of this wine conveys mellow richness. Smoothness also characterizes the rounded, generous palate where the creaminess takes on an even richer mouthfeel. Baked pear, a hint of banana and dried lemon peel lend fruity notions and freshness to this richly textured wine that reveals wet chalk, beeswax and yeasty savor. This huge wine will evolve.

• Wine advocate: The 2015 Schoffweg opens very clear and with powdery chalky flavors on the nose, where ripe white-seed fruit aromas and a touch of smokiness are displayed. Full-bodied, round and lush, with rich and juicy fruit, ripe acidity and fine tannins, this elegant Schoffweg reveals its concentration, finesse and purity only in the finish that is almost tropical but still precise and stimulating in its texture. This is a great and promising wine, and you don't have to wait for a long time to enjoy it.

Producer Information

Marcel Deiss is a French wine producer located in the small village of Bergheim in Alsace. The Deiss family have been growing grapes in the region since 1744 with the domaine established in 1947. Today, the Deiss vineyards are planted to Pinot Gris, Riesling, Gewürztraminer and Muscat are produced as varietal wines as well as traditional field blends. The domaine covers 32 hectares (79 acres) of vineyard land planted on hillsides that spread over multiple communes. This includes land in the Mambourg, Altenberg de Bergheim and Schoenenbourg vineyards, all of which are produced as blends to showcase the character of the terroir rather than the grape. Marcel Deiss was instrumental in convincing the INAO to make varietal labeling optional for both AOC Alsace and Alsace Grand Cru wines. Marcel Deiss makes a range of wines at various levels of quality, from the generic Alsace AOC all the way up the Grand Cru wines. There is also a small range of Vendange Tardive and Sélection de Grains Nobles wines made from Alsace's noble varieties.
