        Reviews:

        • Wine Advocate: From a vineyard site not too far away from the winery near Castelnuovo dell'Abate on the eastern and cooler side of the appellation, this wine was once a Rosso di Montalcino recently upgraded to Brunello status. With vines planted in 2000, the fruit now renders the complexity and depth to represent this celebrated Tuscan appellation. This is a tight and compact wine, with a nervous quality of fruit that will unwind and settle with more bottle age. This vineyard site produces fruit poised for long-term aging, and these 2016 results follow that mandate.
        • Wine Spectator: A focused, polished red with dark-berry, cherry, walnut and dried-flower aromas and flavors. Medium to full body and firm, caressing tannins. Lovely finesse and polish to this. Dusty texture. Needs a year or two to soften, but already pretty.

        Producer Information

Podere Le Ripi is a Montalcino-based wine estate, producing a collection of biodynamic wines from Sangiovese, Syrah, Trebbiano and Malvasia. The estate was founded by Francesco Illy in 1997.The estate cultivates 34 hectares (84 acres) of vineyards across two locations in Montalcino. 30 hectares (74 acres) are planted to Sangiovese with small portions of Syrah, Trebbiano and Malvasia. Here, a mediterranean climate with continental influence creates a dry and cool climate for viticulture. The proximity to the Monte Amiata volcano provides a mineral soil type with a concentration of both macro and micro elements. In the vineyard, grapes are harvested by hand into baskets according to the biodynamic calendar. After arriving at the winery, grapes are hand sorted prior to a slow fermentation in barrel or open-top tonneaux.
