        Reviews:

        • Wine Advocate: Corison's 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Sunbasket Vineyard is marked by scents of pencil shavings and cassis on the nose. Just a bit bigger and richer than the Kronos while still refreshingly moderate in alcohol (13.7%), this is more velvet than silk, with a deeper pile to the plush feel on the palate, but perhaps there's a bit less perfume and complexity. It's still a terrific Cab, elegant and finesse-filled, rather than overpowering.
        • James Suckling: Very juicy and brambly in feel, with a bright and well-defined mix of boysenberry and plum fruit flavors along with notes of applewood and licorice. Open-knit through the finish but without sacrificing depth and length. A distinctive Cabernet that relies on inner brightness rather than outward power.

        Producer Information

Corison Winery is a boutique winery in St Helena, California, created by Cathy Corison in 1987. Predominately a Cabernet Sauvignon house, Corison is famous for creating a style of wine that goes against the stereotype that all Napa Cabernet wines are flamboyant, rich, alcohol bombs. Instead, Corison's wines are elegant and notably ageworthy, and are held in high regard. Cathy Corison developed a passion for wine in the 1970s while studying biology at Pomona College in Claremont, California. After receiving a Masters in Enology at UC Davis, she worked at the likes of Chappellet Vineyard, Staglin Family Estate, York Creek Vineyards, and Long Meadow Ranch, before settling on her property in St Helena. Here, she began crafting varietal Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from the benchlands where Rutherford and St Helena merge. Like due to their more elegant and restrained style, early releases did not receive the high marks and praise from Robert Parker who, although noting the 1990 Cabernet Sauvignon's "fine ripeness and body", found it was "slightly less intense and complex than several of its peers".
