      Detailed Description

This wine shows terrific balance and harmony. Quite delicate and smooth texture on the long finish.

        Producer Information

Bernard Faurie is a wine producer based in France's Rhône Valley. The estate vineyards are divided almost equally between the appellations of Hermitage and Saint-Joseph in the northern Rhône. The Faurie family has been cultivating vines in Hermitage since 1935. Today, Bernard Faurie carries on his family's legacy and farms three parcels within this renowned region of the Rhône: Bessards, Méal, and Gréffieux. The top wine is the Syrah-based Méal Hermitage Rouge that is only made in limited volumes. Méal was first planted to vine in 1960 and extends over a small plot of land characterized by its granite, limestone and quartz soils. The remaining portfolio of Hermitage Rouge is made from different parcel blends of Syrah – Gréffieux/Bessards and Bessards/Méal. The soils at Gréffieux and Bessards are rich in granite and are free-draining, with the oldest vines at Gréffieux having been planted in 1914. Bernard Faurie also produces a small quantity of Hermitage Blanc from 100-percent Marsanne cultivated in the granitic soils of Gréffieux. In Saint-Joseph, Bernard Faurie cultivates Syrah for his red wines and Marsanne and Roussanne for his whites. In the winery, wild yeasts are employed for the fermentation process with no fining and only a light filtrations prior to bottling. Barrel-aging can take up to 24 months in 600 litre demi muids with the use of new oak kept to a strict minimum.
