White Wine: 2019 | Rafael Palacios | Louro Godello

The wine does have very good freshness, plus a very salty finish and the granite sensation that gives it an electric touch, complex, powerful and with a profile of a serious wine with very little bitterness.

                                        Producer Information

Rafael Palacios started his wine project in 2004 in the Bibei Valley in the municipality of O Bolo 50 km north of the Portuguese border in the DO Valdeorras. He bought old vineyards of the native white Godello variety from older winemakers who could no longer manage the arduous cultivation. The extremely rough landscape and the low yields of the not very fertile soils, in addition to the phylloxera and economic depression of the 1920s led to the almost complete abandonment of this small but historic wine region of Valdeorras. These small parcels of vineyards were and are mainly terraced and were given away by lottery "Sorteo" by the winegrowers of the region. In the westernmost part of the region, at the foot of the Massif Central of Ourense, granite is the predominant rock. The vines grow mostly on sandy soils, due to the natural quarrying of this granite rock and the presence of quartz shales. There are currently 28 parcels owned by Rafael Palacios, with a total area of 24.5 hectares. He vinifies exclusively the Godello variety, which enjoys a continental climate with Atlantic influences. The vineyards of Bodegas Palacios are located on the right bank of the river Bibei at an altitude between 620 and 740 meters. These plots are cultivated in a traditional way and with ecological means. The older areas and vines are cultivated biodynamically. Rafael Palacios is personally responsible for the viticulture and the aging in the cellar. His goal is to respect the identity of O Bolo and express the purity of its wines.
