      Detailed Description

The wine is harmonious, round, generous, fleshy, ample, mellow, racy and elegant, in colour a deep rich ruby red.

      Producer Information

Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret is a Burgundy estate with a long history of making fine Pinot Noir wines in Vosne-Romanée. The Mongeard family dates its origins in the commune back to 1620. In the 1920s, the marriage of Eugène Mongeard to Edmée Mugneret brought together vineyards from both families, increasing the size of the domaine. In 1945, their son Jean began estate-bottling the wine for the first time and releasing it commercially under the name Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret. Jean had taken over the estate and at 16 was selling its grapes to esteemed producers such as Marquis d'Angerville and Henri Gouges. It was on Gouges' advice that Jean transitioned to bottling the wine himself. The estate is now one of the larger properties and has 30 hectares (75 acres) of vines in over 30 different vineyards, with an average vine age of more than 40 years. The most sought-after wines in Mongeard-Mugneret's catalog are six grand cru-designated wines made from parcels in four esteemed vineyards: Échezeaux, Grands Échezeaux, Clos de Vougeot and Richebourg. Pinot Noir is the most significant variety in the portfolio, supplemented with a small number of white wines made from Chardonnay and Aligoté. The white wines tend not to come from the more prestigious grand and premier cru-designated vineyards that the domaine is famous for.
