2021 | Sylvain Cathiard | Bourgogne Aligote

This Bourgogne Aligote is the only white wine Sebastian makes and it is always in very small quantities. Offering these up for sale is incredibly difficult, this Aligote is just so pure, energetic and completely delicious. Mineral textures and purity abound in this wine year on year and is such a fantastic bottle that somehow manages to hide in plain site.

Producer Information

Sébastien Cathiard took over from his father with the 2011 vintage after time spent working vintages across the globe. While maintaining the textural style he has added greater fruit clarity and precision. He has also, cannily, expanded the vineyard holdings and the range available. The original 4.6 hectares, including plots in, amongst others, Grand Cru Romanée-St Vivant and Vosne-Romanée Premiers Crus Malconsorts, Reignots, Orveaux and Suchots, has now expanded to more than 12.5 hectares by additions in Gevrey-Chambertin as well as three single vineyard wines from the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits.He also started producing a white wine in 2019 from a tiny 0.13 hectares of very young vines of Aligoté. While this wine showed well in the 2019 and 2020 vintages it is really with this, the 2021 vintage, that the potential has increased following the addition of a 1.45 hectare old vine vineyard. These old vines inevitably contribute to a lift in quality and complexity and we are delighted to be able to offer this highly affordable wine from this globally revered and keenly followed Vosne-Romanée producer.
