Detailed Description

Kopper Kettle is made by Belmont Farm Distillery in Virginia. The three grains used in the whiskey is grown on the farm, though the exact mixture of corn, wheat, and barley used in the whiskey is kept secret. The whiskey is twice distilled using an antique copper pot still. Virginia oak and apple wood chips are left to soak in the whiskey for two months before it is aged in oak barrels for 4 years.

Belmont Farm Kopper Kettle Virginia Whiskey Tasting Notes

Nose: Right off the bat, the whiskey introduces itself with explosive brightness. Sun-drenched hay, honey, and pear skins jump in to my nostrils and feel free of heft or heat. A slight hit of butterscotch helps to round out the sharper, crisper notes, and a handful of red summer berries are present.

Palate: The first note is raw almond, pleasantly nutty with a soft creaminess across the tongue. There is a tannic bitterness present from the oak which masks any perceptible alcohol burn, that carries a pithy citrus note. Vanilla is low, but appropriate for a lighter, brighter dram.

Finish: Long and rich.

Distillery Information

Belmont Farm Distillery was the first craft whiskey distillery in the USA. For more than four centuries, their forefathers produced fresh whiskey in the hills of Virginia. Until 30 years ago, whiskey for popular consumption was made in column stills that handle thousands of gallons per hour. Here at Belmont Farm, whiskey is produced in a genuine solid copper pot still. While others may be flooding the market, their pot still whiskey is slow and handled with care to preserve all of the aroma and taste of a fine fresh whiskey. Their copper pot still is truly the secret of their whiskey.
