Distillery: Chattanooga Whiskey Company

Detailed Description

This wasn’t any ordinary smoked beer – this smoked doppelbock was a local collaboration with their friends at OddStory Brewing Co. here in Chattanooga, who utilized both stave-smoked and cob-smoked malt in the beer – both of which were produced from their very own distillery ingredients! The result was a fantastic beer and one they were proud to share a cask with. Aged for at least two years in 25 gallon barrels and finished in “Native” barrels for 30 days, Batch 003 Native Barrel. Slightly larger than Batch 002, Batch 003 yielded around 135 cases and will be available both at the Experimental Distillery along with select retailers around Tennessee.

Distillery Information

The Chattanooga Whiskey Company is a producer of bourbon whiskey and "Tennessee High Malt" bourbon whiskey, located in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The company was founded by Tim Piersant and Joe Ledbetter. The 1816 brand was launched in April 2012,[1] and the company simultaneously announced its intention to help change local distilling laws. The launch met with some initial criticism, primarily due to where the product was made (contract manufactured at MGP/LDI of Indiana), but Hamilton County laws prohibited the manufacture of "intoxicating liquors" at the time.[4] Local public awareness eventually became a catalyst in galvanizing support to change Prohibition-era distilling laws. In March 2015, the company opened the first legal distillery in Chattanooga since Prohibition. The first experimental whiskey, "Batch 001: Tennessee High Malt", was released in August 2017.
