Filibuster Dual Cask Bourbon sits atop their lineup as their Dual Cask twist on a bourbon style that is blended from barrels aged 4-6 years. The mash bill consists of 70% corn, 20% rye, and 10% barley. After being aged in new charred oak casks they add their signature Dual Cask twist with a secondary rest of 2 to 3 months in California wine barrels.
Filibuster Dual Cask Straight Bourbon Tasting Notes
Nose: The secondary rest in California wine barrels brings forth additional fruity notes of cherries and apricots.
Palate: Floral, honey, vanilla, and caramel accents on the palate.
Finish: Finish brings with it more caramel, spice, and tannins.
Distillery Information
Filibuster is a Virginia-based distillery that (ironically) started out as a blending house with no plans to distill. Then, I can only imagine the inexorable draw as the craft Whiskey industry sang its siren song and the company purchased a defunct apple processing plant in the Shenandoah valley, in Virginia, and began installing stills. As is the case with just about every other distillery or “distillery” opened this decade, the liquid is not quite ready to barrel yet. Best guess, they started distilling in 2017 so expect real Filibuster juice around about 2021.
