Glenmorangie | Dr Bill Lumsden x Azuma Makoto | 23 Year Old | Highland Single Malt Scotch Whiskey | 2024 Limited Edition | 700ML Tasting Notes

Nose: It’s really subtle – cantaloupe melon, soft honey, honeycomb, milk chocolate, lemon zest, some orange oil, creamy coconut and pineapple. Classic Glenmorangie. It reminds me alot of the Astar release from a decade or so ago, but much more grown up.

Palate: Soft, creamy, sweet, a little bitter with oak and gently drying on the arrival. More milk chocolate, cocoa powder, bitter orange and a slow build up of gentle, spicy oak that leads the way as it develops. The oak provides great weight to the texture, a slightly burnt brown sugar/creme brulee top to the end of it.

Finish: Soft, creamy, sweet, a little bitter with oak and gently drying on the arrival. Distillery Information

Glenmorangie is a famous single malt distillery situated just north of the town of Tain in Ross-shire, in the Highlands of Scotland. It is believed to be named after either Gleann Mór na Sith meaning "vale of tranquility" or Gleann Mór-innse meaning "vale of big meadows" in Gaelic. Glenmorangie is one of the best-known Scottish distilleries, despite its confusing pronunciation – it is pronounced with an emphasis on the second syllable, rather than on the first and third. It is reported that the production of alcohol at the site dates back to 1703. Known then as Morangie Farm, a brewery was constructed on the site for proximity to the farm's water source, Tarlogie Spring. The proprietor of the time, William Matheson converted the farm into a distillery a gave the name Glenmorangie in 1843. Glenmorangie was one of the early leaders in exporting its product, despite the forced closure between 1931 and 1936 due to the effects of Prohibition. The standard offering is the 10-year-old Original, but there are many expressions available. Glenmorangie was one of the first distilleries to experiment with different wood finishes for its whisky, where the spirit receives a second period of maturation (a finish) in a different type of barrel. Glenmorangie offers a range of finishes including Sherry, Port, Sauternes, and Madeira. The distillery is owned by the Glenmorangie Company – an arm of luxury goods company LVMH – which also owns the Islay distillery Ardbeg.
