He is a rockstar of the Japanese whisky world, and his family have been in the alcoholic beverage making industry since the 1600s. Ichiro’s father ran the Hanyu distillery and began experimenting with whisky making until his unfortunate bankruptcy. Ichiro then founded his own distillery, named Chichibu, located in Saitama, just outside of Tokyo. This particular Ichiro’s Malt Chichibu single malt is a single cask whisky that was distilled in 2011. It brings everything you would expect from the wonderful bottler and distillery and much more. The perfect addition to any Japanese whisky collection.

Nose: Full-bodied, smooth. A mellow peat softly coats the aromatic palette at first, growing more powerful with time.

Palate: Smooth and soft with good sweetness and winter spice.

Finish: Finish is long, spicy and smooth.

Distillery Information

Chichibu distillery is a Japanese whisky distillery. Founded in 2004 by Ichiro Akuto, and operational from 2008, it was the first new Japanese distillery since 1973. It is located at Chichibu, a city in Saitama Prefecture, Japan.
