Kavalan is in a unique position of having to define, not only for itself, but in a way, for Taiwan, what whisky from this location should taste like. They've settled on creating whiskies that they and their countrymen would drink which are whiskies that are more sweet and fruity. As a result, expect to see many of their whiskies either aged entirely, or at least finished, in wine casks.

Kavalan Sherry Oak Single Malt Whisky Tasting Notes

Nose: Familiar rich dark fruit, marzipan and spice notes.

Palate: Mixed dark spices, vanilla and plum.

Finish: Dried fruit and cocoa.

Distillery Information

Situated at the cross boundary of Yi-Lan mountains, overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the King Car distillery has been creating something that many thought would never happen: Taiwanese whisky. Naming their brand after the indigenous people that originally inhabited that area, the Kavalan, was a way to show how genuine King Car Group wanted to be with their new project.
