The Exceptional Blend 1st Edition from Sutcliffe & Son is a exemplary selection of mature grain and malt casks from North British, Strathclyde, Cameronbridge, Glenfarclas, Ben Nevis, Balvenie, Kininvie, Glenfiddich, Alt-a’Bhainne, Auchroisk, Glenallachie, Westport, Speyside and The Macallan distilleries, blended and married in first-fill Oloroso sherry butts. Spanning four decades, the component whiskies for each edition of The Exceptional bottlings are selected for their individual (yet complementary) attributes, to create a harmonious whisky of layered complexity and great depth. Bottled at 43% ABV.

The Exceptional 1st Edition Blend Blended Scotch Whisky | 700ML Tasting Notes

Nose: Nutty Oloroso and toffee'd grain goodness, toffee brittle, some zesty marmalade. Stuffing notes then develop - sage, parsley, savoury doughy notes - with caramel never too far away. Good stuff.

Palate: Light toffee notes, soon becoming honeyed with honeycomb, white pepper and a touch of strawberry.

Finish: Scones and echoes of that fruit from the palate.

Distillery Information

An American independent bottler and producer of The Exceptional Grain, The Exceptional Malt and The Exceptional Blend. Don Sutcliffe has worked with his friend of 25 years Willie Phillips to create this range of Scotch, initially for the US market. Together they have incredible experience in the drinks industry, with Sutcliffe who is managing director of Craft Distilling having worked in the spirits industry for 35 years, whilst Phillips was managing director of The Macallan between 1978 and 1996.
