- Wine Enthusiast: Direct and straightforward, this offers faint notes of citrus, white apple flesh and melon rind on the nose and mouth, with just-enough acidity and a short but clean finish.
Producer Information
The Cape is blessed with a Mediterranean climate, which is known to produce the world's finest wines. But, if you study a map of Africa, you will see that the Cape, which is at the southern tip of the continent, is also uniquely situated. It is a relatively thin coastal strip flanked by two oceans - the Atlantic and the Indian - which converge near the Cape of Good Hope. This greatly influences the climate, making the Coastal Region of the Cape temperate and cool with prevailing breezes from the sea during the day, and chilly at night, refreshing the grapes in summer. The effects of these sea breezes on the grapes are most beneficial because in hotter climates grapes rapidly lose their flavour. These delicate flavour components are situated just under the skin and are therefore easily affected by heat. Conversely, if the grapes are kept cool, as they are by the ocean breezes, the flavour components remain intact, resulting in wines that are refreshing and full of varietal flavour. Because of these unique characteristics, the cool Coastal Region of the Cape is known as one of the finest wine-growing areas in the world.
