Producer Information
Château Fourcas Dupré is a wine estate in the Listrac-Médoc appellation, 35km (22 miles) northwest of Bordeaux city center, in the wider Médoc region on the left bank of the Gironde estuary. The estate produces a number of red and white wines and has occasionally released a rosé. The château was established in 1844 and had been owned by the Pagès family since 1970. In 2019, it was acquired by Breton businessman and hotel owner, Gérard Jicquel. The château lies just north of the small town of Listrac-Médoc, several kilometers southwest of Saint-Julien and a similar distance northwest of Margaux. The estate spans some 46 hectares (114 acres) on predominantly classic Médoc gravel soils with a clay-and-limestone subsoil. The vineyard itself is composed of roughly equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot (around 40 percent each) blended with small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The vines average over 30 years old. Château Fourcas Dupré's grand vin is produced from the estate's best fruit, and is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, a third of which are new. Around 240,000 bottles are produced annually. The second wine was formerly known as Bellevue de Fourcas Dupré, although this title has been retired and replaced by Château Bellevue Laffont – a former property in its own right (albeit part of the same group). This is composed of roughly 50/50 amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Some 60,000 bottles are produced each vintage. The château also produces a Bordeaux Blanc and has, in the past, made a rosé. A special cuvée – Cuvée Hautes Terres – is also made in some years and is also a 50/50 blend of Cabernet and Merlot. An Haut-Médoc titled Tout Simplement (also equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot) and the Vin de Chasse red round off the range at entry-level prices.
