Producer Information

La Massa is a leading wine producer in Tuscany. It is located in the hills of Panzano in the Chianti Classico region, but specializes in the production of Super Tuscan Toscana IGT wines from Sangiovese and Bordeaux grape varieties. Giorgio Primo is La Massa's flagship wine. The Toscana IGT wine is a Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot that has matured in 80 percent new French oak barrels for 18 months. La Massa produces two other Toscana IGT wines: La Massa, composed of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot plus Alicante Bouschet, and Carla 6 from 100 percent Sangiovese from a single vineyard planted in 1999. La Massa has also produced a Chianti Classico DOCG with grapes from the estate property in Panzano. The vineyards are complex and varied, featuring clay schist, siliceous limestone, sandstone, and calcareous marl. They are planted to the classic Tuscan variety Sangiovese as well as Bordeaux varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Merlot.
