2014 | Myriad Cellars | Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard Elysian Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

A supple palate of dark berries, dark plums, fig, tobacco, a streak of licorice right down the middle. Crushed gravel lift in the mid palate plays off the natural acidity, leading to spectacular tannin management. The Elysian bottling has a slight sweetness and a seemingly never-ending skyscraper finish as its grand finale.

• Wine Advocate: The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard Elysian Reserve still seems like a youngster, dense bluish/purple in color with loads of blueberry liqueur, white flowers, graphite and pen ink, it’s full-bodied, stunningly rich and a killer example of this fabulous vineyard that would be a first-growth if there were such a thing in Napa. Drink it over the next 15-20 years.

• James Suckling: This is very tight and focused with incredible depth of fruit and richness yet it's bright and intense. Fresh and fleshy! Full and fruity. Needs at least three to five years to open.

Myriad Cellars is a wine producer based in California's Napa Valley. Founder Mike Smith released his first vintage under the Myriad Cellars label in 2005, and today the estate's portfolio is largely dedicated to single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon wines, with smaller offerings of single-vineyard Syrah and Sémillon. Numerous wines have received perfect 100-point scores from numerous publications, including former US wine critic Robert Parker's Wine Advocate.Myriad Cellars makes wines from a selection of Napa Valley vineyards. The most famous of these is the 10-hectare (25-acre) Beckstoffer Dr. Crane vineyard in St Helena, which was planted in 1858 and sits atop deep alluvial soils.Seven rows of its Cabernet Sauvignon vines are harvested to produce Myriad Cellars' Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon and Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard 'Elysian' Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon wines. The wines are made at the Tamber Bey Winery in Calistoga.
