• Jeb Dunnuck: An utterly perfect wine from Alain Vauthier, the 2015 Château Ausone offers off the hook notes of crème de cassis, black raspberries, toasted spice and dried flowers, with more floral and mineral characteristics developing with time in the glass. Amazingly deep, full-bodied, pure and ethereally textured, with building density and tannin, it’s one of those wines that need to be tasted to be believed. Unfortunately, the production is minuscule (and expensive). A wine that will make your heart rate jump ... It’s a tour de force in wine and the wine of the vintage in 2015.

The acidity, ripe tannins and the power of this dense wine are enormous, as is its aging potential. Producer Information

The estate took the name of a famous Latin poet of the 4th century AD, Ausone, who is said to have owned a house on the very spot where the castle stands today. It is undoubtedly an old vineyard but it took a long time to come out of anonymity. From the end of the 18th century, its history becomes clearer: it is successively the property of the Cantenat then of the Lafargue and still currently belongs to the descendants of these families. In the middle of the 19th century, informal classifications show it among the very best wines of Saint-Emilion. However, it was not until the 1970s and the arrival of Pascal Delbeck as manager to see Ausone appear among the greatest wines of Bordeaux. The current owner, Mr. Vauthier, has taken this wine even further.
