The 2017 CADE Howell Mountain Estate Cabernet Sauvignon has aromas of blueberry, blackberry, coco nibs, cran-raspberry, roasted coffee, clove, cinnamon, black pepper, mint, and fruit leather. The wine has a velvety texture with lush and prominent tannins and bright acidity. There are flavors of boysenberry, blueberry pie, red cherry, cola, vanilla, graham cracker, and chocolate truffles.

• Wine Advocate: The 2017 Cade Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, blended with 4% Malbec, 4% Petit Verdot and 4% Merlot, is deep garnet-purple colored and a little closed, slowly giving up warm cassis, blackberry tart and mulberries with touches of spice box, pencil shavings and Marmite toast. The full-bodied palate is firm, grainy and muscular with an earthy expression and just enough freshness, finishing on a lingering mineral note.

• James Suckling: This is a ripe and strapping young red, packed with dark currant and fig paste flavors carried by strident and sleek structure. A great, piercing graphite edge comes in on the finish, along with licorice snap and tar accents. Textbook Howell Mountain Cab, built for cellaring.

Cade Winery is a winery located on Howell Mountain in the Napa Valley of California. A partner winery to Plumpjack, also located in Napa, it produce Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc from the estate property as well as other vineyards in the valley. Cade winery was founded in 2007 by American composer Gordon Getty and the now Governor of California, Gavin Newsom. It sits at 1800ft above the Napa Valley floor on Howell Mountain, where 54 acres (22 ha) of vineyards are planted to Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Environmentally friendly, they were the first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Certified estate winery in Napa Valley. Their wine portfolio consists of varietal Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc. The Cade Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is their flagship wine, sourced from the estate property. Additionally, two other Cabernet Sauvignons are sourced from vineyards in Saint Helena, Oak Knoll, and Calistoga and are known for being rich and powerful, with the capacity for significant aging. Finally, two Sauvignon Blancs are produced from Napa Valley and the producer estate.
