Reviews:
- Decanter: Planted in 1970, this parcel is located on white limestone-dominated soils and always produces a very mineral style of Échézeaux: light, aromatic and charming with fine-boned tannins and well-handled oak, 40% new. A green harvest was done here in 2017 to restrict yields after the 2016 frost.
- Vinous: The 2017 Echézeaux En Orveau comes from a cool microclimate, the last before you reach Musigny, though here the vines face south rather than east on shallow soils. This has a pleasant bouquet, initially quite bashful but gaining intensity in the glass, with crushed stone infusing the dark berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied, offering sappy red berry fruit, orange peel and a touch of marmalade, and quite grippy toward the back palate. A touch of allspice features on the aftertaste. This should drink nicely over the next two decades. A well-crafted, burly Echézeaux.
Producer Information
Founded in 1825, Bourgognes Faiveley has been handed down from father to son for over 175 years. As the sixth generation to take the reins, François Faiveley manages, with equal amounts passion and competence, the largest family domaine in Burgundy. Methodically reconstructing vineyards fractured by French inheritance laws, Bourgognes Faiveley today owns more appellations in their entirety (monopoles) than any other domaine in Burgundy.
