      Detailed Description

This label comes from Fort Ross-Seaview AVA. Medium ruby-purple in color, the 2017 Pinot Noir Ma Danseuse needs a little coaxing to release the wonderful perfume of exotic scents bergamot, sandalwood, cassia and cinnamon stick over a cove of Morello cherries, lilacs, dark chocolate and black raspberries, plus a waft of spearmint. Medium-bodied, the palate is incredibly fresh, silken textured and light on its feet and yet with fantastic intensity, finishing long and mineral laced

        Reviews:

        • Wine Advocate: The medium ruby-purple colored barrel sample of 2017 Pinot Noir Ma Danseuse struts some seriously profound blackberry, black cherry and wild blueberries with hints of baking spices, violets, roses and tobacco. The palate is medium to full-bodied, firm and velvety, with a wonderfully lively backbone and very long, fruity finish. 1,435 cases are expected to be produced, to be released in July 2019.
        • Vinous: The 2017 Pinot Noir Ma Danseuse is laced with sweet dark cherry, plum, spice, leather, tobacco, menthol and lavender that add to the wine's strong, brooding personality. Ample and virile in feel, Ma Danseus shows the more potent side of the Sonoma Coast to great effect. The 2017 is presently quite tannic, but another few years in bottle should do the trick.

        Producer Information

In 1982, after six years of searching for land to serve as both vineyard and family retreat, Sir Peter Michael and Lady Michael purchased 630 acres of volcanic ridges on the western face of Mount St. Helena in Knights Valley. Following Sir Peters "100 by 100" vision 100% family ownership for at least 100 years and drawing inspiration from the great wineries of Burgundy and Bordeaux, the family hired like-minded viticulturists and winemakers to help them create terroir-driven wines that would stand the test of time. Today, with the support of son, Paul, and Paul's wife Emily, the Peter Michael winery still adheres to its original founding principles of mountain vineyards, classical winemaking, and limited production. The estate vineyards rest on steep hillsides ranging in elevation from 1000 to nearly 2000 feet. With 120 acres under vine, the winery is known for single-vineyard and estate grown Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Pinot Noir. Under the direction of winemaker Nicolas Morlet (who joined in Dec 2005), all Peter Michael wines are made using a non-interventionist, neo-classical approach, which relies on traditional, hands-on winemaking methods blended with the best of modern technology.
