Vosne Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchot 2018 is a fine Burgundy wine produced by Domaine de l'Arlot . The 100% Pinot Noir grapes come from an exceptional terroir, located between Romanée Saint-Vivant, Echezeaux and Richebourg, cradle of the greatest Pinot Noirs in the world. The harvest is carried out to enhance the freshness of the fruit. Fermentation with pumping over and light punching down allow the wine to authentically reflect the terroir. Aging takes place in barriques for about 15 months, from 40 to 45% in new barriques then 3 months in steel vats before bottling.

• Wine Advocate: Harvested on September 1 and vinified with some 40% whole cluster, the 2018 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots bursts with lavish aromas of creamy berry fruit, candied peel, plums and spices. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, with lively acids, good depth at the core and velvety structuring tannins.

• Vinous: The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots 1er Cru contains 35% whole-bunch fruit this year, matured in 40% new oak. It has a gorgeous bouquet that is typical Les Suchots, featuring opulent dark cherries, raspberry coulis and impressive mineral notes. The wood is very well assimilated here. The medium-bodied palate offers fine tannins, crisp black and red fruit and touches of dark chocolate toward the structured, almost Malconsorts-like finish. This is a fascinating and well-crafted Vosne-Romanée that will age with style

Producer Information

Domaine de L'Arlot is one of the seminal properties in Nuits St. Georges. The domaine was co-owned by Jean-Pierre de Smet, who spent eight years alongside Jacques Seysses of Domaine Dujac before taking over L’Arlot in 1986. Today, the domaine consists of 14 hectares planted to mostly Pinot Noir, with 5% devoted to Chardonnay for their ultra-rare white wines. The oldest vines are 70+ years old, with the average age close to 50. While the estate’s core is in the monopoles of Clos des Forêts Saint Georges and Clos de l’Arlot, the domaine also consists of two parcels in the village of Vosne-Romanée that were added in 1991. In 2015 the very talented Geraldine Godot took over the domaine. With Geraldine’s inspired leadership, Domaine de l’Arlot is committed to maintaining their classic, elegant style of terroir driven wines in hopes of providing the sort of divine pleasure only classic Burgundy delivers.
