Detailed Description
Detailed Description
Creamy and full-bodied, with hints of citrus zest, wet stone, and a touch of vanilla. The acidity here is bright and lively. On the palate, it is fresh and nicely balanced with lemongrass and a round mouthfeel that give way to the traditional mineral backbone found in this varietal.
Reviews:
- VInous: A deft application of wood sets off ever-so-mildly exotic aromas of elegant and pure white and yellow orchard fruit, acacia blossom and whiffs of ocean breeze and shrimp shells. There is excellent intensity to the refined, restrained and lilting but punchy middle weight flavors that conclude in a balanced, lingering and harmonious finale. This is very Zen in its delivery.
- James Suckling: Bright and evoking aromas and flavors of apple, melon, honey and stone, this white strikes an equilibrium between intensity and elegance. The finish is refreshing, and the aftertaste echoes stone fruit and mineral.
Producer Information
Domaine Christian Moreau Père et Fils is a wine producer based in Chablis, in northern Burgundy. The company has a history dating back to 1814 with the establishment of the wine merchant trading company J. Moreau et Fils, founded by Jean Joseph Moreau. The company sold shares in the 1970s and was sold off in the 1980s but, as of 2002, the estate and vineyards have been back in the hands of the Moreau family. Today, the domaine produces multiple examples of Chablis from estate-grown Chardonnay. The estate consists of 12 hectares (30 acres) of organically farmed vineyard land spread throughout Chablis. Approximately 5ha (13 acres) of this land is in the Chablis Grand Cru vineyards, including plots in Blanchot, Le Clos, Valmur, and Vaudésir. Christian Moreau's vines average 45 years old, and are primarily planted on Chablis' famous Kimmeridgian soils. All of the Chardonnay is handpicked, from the domaine's Petit Chablis vineyards up to grand cru. The winemaking process sees fermentation and aging in stainless steel vats.
