Single Cask Nation is the only independent bottler of Scotch Whisky based here in the US. Owned and operated by Joshua Hatton and Jason Johnstone-Yellin, the aim is to uncover the finest and rarest single casks and then bottle them at full cask strength. Though the focus is on Scotch whiskies, Single Cask Nation also bottles wonderful bourbons, rye whiskies, Indian whiskies, and even cask-aged Mezcals from some of the most famous, well-known, and respected producers in the world.

Single Cask Nation Ledaig 13 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky Tasting Notes

Nose: The perfect marriage of unlit cigars and orange spiced gumdrops. Crushed vanilla beans, hints of menthol, and echoes of cotton candy. Heavier notes come through like spent engine oil, espresso beans, wilting wild-flowers, and wheatgrass.

Palate: The palate opens with melting caramel but quickly transitions to candy corn and intense spearmint. The mouthfeel in rich and oily but seemingly effervescent, too. Chewy Asian corn-milk candies and spiced vanilla chai latte as we near the finish.

Finish: Long and peppery with lasting notes of honey drizzled mandarin orange slices.

Distillery Information

Tobermory distillery is a Scotch whisky distillery situated on the Hebridean island of Mull, Scotland in the town of Tobermory. The distillery, which was formerly known as Ledaig, was founded in 1798 and has changed hands several times, having undergone a number of periods of closure. The only distillery on Mull, it is currently owned by Burn Stewart Distillers, a subsidiary of Distell Group Limited of South Africa. Its main product, Tobermory single malt, is used in the blends Scottish Leader and Black Bottle. The distillery also produces a smaller amount of peated whisky, which remains known under the former name, Ledaig.
