Bright, deep ruby-red. Musky, gamey aromas of black raspberry, tobacco, leather, tar and cedar. Dense but nicely delineated. Tannins are firm but harmonious. Finishes with a flavor of red berries.

• Wine Advocate: The spectacular 1995 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Speciale is a worthy rival to the monumental 1994. It offers an opaque purple color and a knock-out nose of tobacco, jammy cassis, pain grille, and floral scents. This wine has superb extract and purity, full body, multiple layers of richness, and a ripe, seamless, palate-staining finish. Although approachable, it is not quite as accessible as the glorious 1994. The Reserve Special wines spend just under two years in oak casks, and are bottled unfined and unfiltered. This stunning offering is among the finest of its type.

• Wine Spectator: Vibrant and lively, with rich, ripe, lush, savory currant, blackberry, mineral, anise and cedar notes that are all in proportion, giving this wine a tremendous sense of balance, finesse and harmony. It finishes with a long, persistent finish, with lots of detailed flavors and depth.

Producer Information

Arrowood Vineyards and Winery is a Californian producer located in Sonoma Valley. It specializes in a range of single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon wines from some of Sonoma's most famous appellations, including Knights Valley, Alexander Valley and Moon Mountain. A majority of Arrowood's collection is sourced through long-term growing contracts with the proprietors of some of the top vineyards in Sonoma, including Monte Rosso on Moon Mountain and Smothers-Remick Ridge on Sonoma Mountain amoungst others. The estate's flagship wine, Réserve Spéciale, is a blend of the best barrels of Cabernet Sauvignon from some of these vineyards as well as Arrowood's estate vineyards. The winery and estate vineyard is located at the base of the Mayacamas Mountains in a sheltered, 3 hectare (8 acre) property. This vineyard is planted to Merlot, Malbec, Petit Verdot, Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Viognier. Arrowood Vineyards was founded in 1986 by Richard and Alis Arrowood and today, is owned by the Jackson Family Wines..
