        Producer Information

Château La Tour du Pin is a wine estate at the northwestern end of the Saint-Emilion appellation of Bordeaux, surrounded by a host of high-profile châteaux, close to the border with Pomerol. It is known for its Merlot-based red wines. The property was once a part of the larger Château Figeac estate, which was much divided during the 19th Century, and is now owned by Château Cheval Blanc, just a few hundred metres to the east of the estate. The La Tour du Pin estate was one of two adjacent properties both known as La Tour du Pin Figeac, distinguished only by the proprietor's family name in smaller print on the label. La Tour du Pin, originally owned by the Moueix family, was renamed after it was sold to Cheval Blanc in 2006. The other property, Château La Tour du Pin Figeac, still exists and is owned by the Giraud-Bélivier family. Older vintages of unspecified "La Tour du Pin Figeac" remain listed on the market, and consumers must take care to confirm the exact identity of the wine. La Tour du Pin is not classified under the Saint-Émilion classification after removing itself in 2012. Around the same time, 1.3 hectares (3 acres) of the vineyard were re-allocated to the Cheval Blanc estate, as the terroir was considered similar. There are now 10 hectares (25 acres) of vines planted to Merlot and Cabernet Franc in a 75/25 split. The wines are fermented in cement vats and aged in French oak barrels for 12 months on average, with one-third new oak. The estate lies close to the Pomerol appellation and, with Figeac to the southwest and Cheval Blanc to the west, other illustrious neighbors include Château La Conseillante to the north and Le Pin to the northwest.
