      Reviews:

      • Wine Advocate: A medium ruby color is followed by a vivid nose of sweet kirsch, raspberries, flowers and dusty, loamy soil notes. This terrifically scented 2011 is medium-bodied, quintessentially elegant, and loaded with flavor. Obviously, the Moueixs have dedicated considerable time and money to upgrade this terroir as recent vintages have been among the most impressive wines I have ever tasted from La Fleur-Petrus. This relatively forward 2011 Pomerol should drink well for 10-15 years.
      • James Suckling: A little lean for La Fleur-Pétrus but very attractive plum and cocoa character. Full to medium body with integrated tannins and a fine, fresh, chewy finish. Better in 2017.

      Producer Information

Château La Fleur-Pétrus is a wine estate in the Pomerol appellation of Bordeaux, and is widely regarded as one of the greatest in the region. The wine is Merlot-dominant, and is known for its finesse, elegance and ageworthiness. The estate vineyard extends to just under 19 hectares (46 acres) and is planted chiefly to Merlot (91 percent) with six percent Cabernet Franc and three percent Petit Verdot. The core vineyard is situated across the road from Château Pétrus and adjacent to Château Lafleur in the eastern quadrant of the Pomerol appellation. This site has more gravel than either of its neighbors, which likely has a role in the more refined style of the wine. La Fleur-Pétrus is typically vinified in cement and stainless steel, and then aged in a mixture of new and old French oak for 18 months. Annual production is around 45,000 bottles. The property was bought by Jean-Pierre Moueix in 1953, but was largely replanted after the frosts of 1956. The property was enlarged in 1994 after vines (and a country house built in 1782) were purchased from Château Le Gay and again in 2012 with the purchase of a plot near Le Pin.
