      Detailed Description

A mature Champagne that has fine, ripe white fruits set against a mineral edge. The wine's lightly toasty character is now integrated with the fruit.

        Producer Information

Champagne Deutz is a notable Champagne house of the Aÿ region. It was founded in 1838 by wine merchants William Deutz and Pierre-Hubert Geldermann. Deutz is well-known for its balanced, elegant wines made from the classic Champagne blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. The core wines in the portfolio are the Brut Classic and Brut Rosé. On top of this, Deutz makes vintage expressions in Brut, Brut Rosé and Brut Blanc de Blancs versions, and a range of prestige cuvées, including the William Deutz Brut Millésime, and the Amour de Deutz Brut and Brut Rosé. Nearly 80 percent of fruit is sourced from Grand Cru and Premier Cru sites. Most of Deutz's vineyard holdings are in the Aÿ region, with additional plots in the Côte de Blancs. The house also uses grapes from contract growers. In the winery, the still base wines are vinified in stainless steel tanks on a plot-by-plot basis. After secondary fermentation, the bottles are aged in cellars deep underground. In 1983, after generations of ownership by the Deutz and Geldermann families, the company was sold to the Rouzaud family, the owners of Louis Roederer. Today, the primary markets for the producer are domestic, but in its infancy Deutz was most popular in the UK.
