The notes of dried garrigue and cocoa accompany with their intensity the depth of very ripe black fruits in a racy and appetizing bouquet. The palate conveys incredible elegance, harmonizing supple tannins, generous fruitiness, concentration and complexity for an eternal finish.

Reviews:
- Wine Enthusiast: In contrast to Janasse's varietal Châteauneuf-du-Pape bottlings, this expression of old vines dating as far back as 1920 blends Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah and other grapes from four distinct vineyard sites. Matured primarily in foudres, it offers piercing blackberry and black-plum flavors softened by flurries of peppercorn and anise as well as ripe, feathery tannins. Anchored by a firm earthen undertow, the wine will improve through 2040 and hold further.
- James Dunnuck: Lastly, the 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Vieilles Vignes is another tour de force from this estate, who are clearly firing on all cylinders today. A blend of 85% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre, and the rest Syrah that’s brought up in a mix of foudre and barrel, its deep purple hue is followed by a rich, powerful, full-bodied wine offering ample cassis and darker berry fruits, notes of ground pepper, cured meats, and scorched earth, ripe, building tannins, incredible balance, and a great finish. It’s going to flirt with perfection at maturity, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it still drinking brilliantly at age 30.
Producer Information
Domaine de la Janasse is much more than an estate because it has become a benchmark in the Southern Rhône Valley! It was in 1967 that Aimé Sabon took over his father's vines, which had until then been a cooperative and trader. He built his own cellar on the place called " La Janasse " thus giving birth to Domaine la Janasse , named after the family farm which was located in Courthézon in 1973. The vineyard of La Janasse , originally made up of 15 ha , now extends over 90 ha and is operated by the Sabon family who are constantly acquiring new plots in order to preserve their terroir. Today, the children, Christophe Sabon and Isabelle Sabon, have taken over La Janasse. Domaine La Janasse today produces Chateauneuf du Pape of a rare quality, predominantly Grenache. The wines of La Janasse are fine, balanced and serious with a beautiful depth with a beautiful transcription of the terroir. The dispersion of the plots makes it possible to make original cuvées of very high quality such as Domaine de la Janasse Terre d'Argile or the cuvée Domaine de La Janasse Terre de Buissière . However, the biggest favorites are La Janasse Chateauneuf du Pape Chaupin and La Janasse Vieilles Vignes!
