Detailed Description

Legendary bottlers, Gordon & Macphail have released a unique and exceptionally limited collection of discontinued single malts distilled at the Strathisla distillery from the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s ranging from 40 to 59 years of age. Showcasing a collective 303 years of wood aging, these remarkable indie selections from yesteryear present an opportunity to experience layers of complexity in single malts steeped in the history and heritage. Strathisla remains the oldest continuously operating distillery in Scotland, long prized as the core malt in the Chivas Regal blends where most of its output goes. Just 75 of these sets are available worldwide. Beautifully presented in a timber case as pictured. One only.

Strathisla 1954 (59 Year Old) Cask 907, first fill sherry butt, distilled May 20, 1954, bottled June 3, 2013. 239 bottles released. The deep, rich mahogany colour of this aged Strathisla is one of the many striking attributes. Sherry soaked rich fruitcake aromas and red berries evolve into a floral edge with a beeswax undertone. An indulgent full-bodied whisky welcomes its visitor to its complexity. The white pepper spiciness melts into the sweetness of ripe oranges and the complexity of stewed rhubarb followed closely by rich dark chocolate whilst a subtle cigar ash note develops.

Strathisla 1957 (55 Year Old) Cask 1719, first fill sherry butt, distilled November 1, 1957, bottled June 3, 2013. 364 bottles released. At fifty-five years old, this full-bodied Strathisla is the personification of perfection. The golden amber malt, matured in a first fill Sherry butt exudes soft aromas of sun-kissed summer berries growing in a meadow of spearmint, the sweet brambles and blackcurrants mingle with gentle toasted oak. Freshly cracked black pepper tickles the tongue and is mellowed by warm rich Sherry influences, juicy grapefruit, zesty orange peel, aniseed and cinnamon linger delicately, long after the malt has been consumed.

Strathisla 1960 (53 Year Old) Cask 2539, first fill sherry butt, Cask 2555, first fill sherry hogshead, Cask 2581, refill American hogshead, distilled November 22, 1960, bottled June 12, 2014. 498 bottles released. The luscious mahogany liquid is pleasing to the eye whilst the nose delights in festive aromas: plump stewed prunes, raisins, cloves, nutmeg and cinnamon, dusted in sweet demerara sugar - a veritable decadent fruitcake with hints of rum and treacle. The palate continues to rejoice from a gentle spicy warmth, complete with autumnal fruits with woody aromatic cloves and alluring allspice. Hints of charred oak add an extra dimension of this full-bodied malt, while traces of earthy tobacco and zesty orange peel linger.
