Detailed Description

Another Skara Brae bottling from The Vintage Malt Whisky Co., produced at an undisclosed Orkney distillery back in 2005. Though that's all we know, seeing as there are only a handful of distilleries on Orkney, that information does help narrow it down a smidge. The single malt then rested in a single ex-bourbon cask for 16 years, before it was bottled up for The Cooper's Choice Series at 51.5% ABV, with an outturn of 372 bottles.

Skara Brae 16 Year Old 2005 (cask 23) - The Cooper's Choice (The Vintage Malt Whisky Co.) | 700ML Tasting Notes

Nose: Singed heather, waxy citrus peels, and burnt digestive biscuits.

Palate: Spiced porridge, oily malt, and bittersweet marmalade, with a savoury, smoky sea breeze.

Finish: Clove-studded orange, salted caramel, and beach bonfire smoke.

Distillery Information

Brian Crook turned many years of expertise in the whisky industry as export director for Bowmore into his own brand when he founded The Vintage Malt Whisky Co. in 1992. The aim was to provide independent wine and spirit importers with fine whisky and that approach certainly worked. After 25 years, the company had exported more than 10 million bottles of malt whisky to more than 30 countries across the world, welcoming Highlands & Islands Scotch Whisky Co on board 1997 along the way before being snapped up by Islay Storm producers CS James & Sons in 2005. The group has plenty of award winning brands to boast now, including Finlaggan, The Ileach, and Islay Storm (all single malts from the island of Islay on the west coast of Scotland), as well as The Cooper’s Choice, a range of single cask bottlings.
