      Detailed Description

        Producer Information

Bosca is a wine producer based in Canelli in the Italian region of Piedmont. Its portfolio is mainly based on sparkling wines produced from the Moscato and Glera (Prosecco) grape varieties. Bosca is also widely known for its vermouth. The company was established in the early 19th Century when Pietro Bosca registered his first a winery in Canelli in 1831. Bosca expanded rapidly under the management of Pietro and his son Luigi and overseas subsidiaries were soon established in France in 1860, Argentina in 1889 and the USA in 1903. After World War II Bosca's focus turned predominantly to the production of spumante wines. Bosca bought up vineyards surrounding the town of Canelli and, in a step away from tradition, introduced the planting of vertical rows of vines in place of horizontal rows. In 1975 Bosca released Canei, a Moscato-based frizzante wine with a distinctive long-necked bottle fitted with a screw cap. It sold the Canei brand to Pernod Ricard in 1989. Following this, Bosca established its Verdi label that today encompasses a portfolio of wines made from blending sparkling wine with fermented malt and fruits like raspberry. Bosca devised a new style of cork, its patented Multistap cap, to allow the bottle to be resealed and the bubbles retained after several openings. Bosca is currently managed by Pia and Polina Bosca. The company's wineries extend over 300 hectares (741 acres) in Asti, Alessandria and Cuneo. Its 19th Century wine cellars in Canelli consist of a mixture of tunnels, passages and spacious halls, and were certified as a Unesco World Heritage Site in 2014.
