Detailed Description
Detailed Description
Buckets of fresh, cherry liqueur, pepper, black raspberry jam, spice, earth and herbs pour of the glass. Thick, rich and full bodied, this generous, round, intense wine leaves a lasting impression of spicy dark cherries and plums on your palate.
Reviews:
- Wine Advocate: The prodigious 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Quartz (85% Grenache aged totally in foudres and the rest Syrah, which is aged in small barrels) has terrific floral, raspberry, and black cherry notes intermixed with a striking minerality and precision. A Musigny grand cru Burgundian style of wine, with power and elegance, a thoroughly compelling flavor profile, and a rich, intense finish, the tannins are sweet and the well-integrated acidity gives uplift to the wine.
- Wine Spectator: Really gorgeous, delivering layer upon layer of fig, boysenberry, blackberry and blueberry fruit, which stay polished and driven, while graphite, black tea and pastis notes fill in the background. Very rich, but supersilky, with great buried acidity.
Producer Information
Le Clos du Caillou is a wine producer located in the Rhône Valley on the border of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The estate was first founded in 1895 as a hunting reserve and was left forested until 1955 when the Pouizin family realized the land's vineyard potential. The first bottles of Le Clos du Caillou were not traded in France until the 1970s, and in 1980 the first bottles of wine were exported. Now the wines of Le Clos du Caillou are exported around the world. The Le Clos du Caillou vineyard includes nine hectares (22 acres) in Châteauneuf-du-Pape itself and another 45 hectares (111 acres) that fall under the Côtes du Rhône appellation. The soil is composed mainly of rolled quartz pebbles (galets) and some sandy soils over marl.
