Château de Pommard is a wine estate and négociant located in the Burgundy appellation with which it shares its name. Though best known for its Pommard wines, the portfolio also includes a range of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines from throughout the Côte d'Or. These include Grand Cru wines from Corton-Charlemagne, Mazis-Chambertin and Échezaux. As well as two distinct château buildings, the domaine boasts a 20-hectare (50 acre) walled vineyard, Clos Marey-Monge. This Village-level Pommard site is the largest monopole in the Côte d'Or. The range has been overhauled by the current owners the Carabello-Baum family. A greater emphasis on microterroirs is being made in this large property (by Burgundian standards). A wine is still made from fruit drawn across the full site. However, the Clos has been divided into seven parcels, supplying a new group of bottlings. The Simone cuvée, from a 0.54 hectare (1.33 acre) between the two chateaux next to the Route de Beaune, runs to just 1,800 bottles. Prospective buyers must joing a waiting list. The estate was founded in 1726 by a noble in the court of Louis XV. When the French Revolution came the family managed to avoid more serious reprisals by selling off the château building while retaining the vines, then later building a second house on the property in calmer times. The various components of the estate were later reunited. Maurice Giraud purchased the property in 2003 and undertook a far reaching program of improvements across the vineyards, cellars and tourism facilities. In 2016 it was acquired by Silicon Valley businessman Michael Baum, whose team has begun converting the estate to biodynamic farming.
