Naked and unadorned. Delicately hazy lemon-yellow. Fragile pear skin, nutmeg and subtle rose petal pair with feathery light tannins and chalky minerality. Unadulterated pleasure. Attention: for best enjoyment, shake before pouring!

• Wine Enthusiast: This shows notes of toasted hazelnut upfront, suggesting a bit of oxi- dation, but fresh notes of lemon and apple come through, coupled with sea salt accents. It is long and savory on the finish.

• James Suckling: A pretty, dry blend of chardonnay and pinot blanc with muskat ottonel and pinot gris, delivering lots of cooked apples, minerals, dried apricots and honey. Full-bodied and delicious. Fun and flavorful.

Producer Information

Weingut Heinrich is a wine producer based in the village of Gols, at the northeastern end of the Neusiedlersee lake in the Burgenland region of southeastern Austria. The winery produces a range of wines from local grapes made with minimal intervention in the winemaking process and many cuvées remain on skins for exended periods. The estate practices biodynamic viticulture and grows and produces a range of grape varieties including Blaufränkisch, Grauer Burgunder, Roter Traminer and Weissburgunder as well as Chardonnay, Zweigelt, St. Laurent and Pinot Noir. In the winery, many of the white wines are fermented (and macerated) in skins, with maceration times varying between wines. Many wines are cellar-aged in wooden oak barrels of varying capacity. A range of labels and wines are produced, with both single-varietal and blended wines released by the estate. Most bear the Burgenland indicator although some top cuvées (including the single-vineyard Edelgraben and Alter Berg Blaufränkisch wines) are produced under the Leithaberg appellation.
