Reviews:
- Wine Advocate: Attractive hints of crushed stone, graphite and nettle leaves appear on the nose of Clos Henri's 2019 Sauvignon Blanc. Backed by layers of white grapefruit and riper notions of stone fruit, this medium-bodied wine is a fine effort. The silky, expansive mouthfeel leads into a long, gently textured finish that leaves tasters refreshed and yearning for another sip. After some irregular performances, this property seems to be finding its stride.
- Wine Enthusiast: This bottling of biodynamic producer Clos Henri’s Sauvignon is currently on the quiet side. There’s some oyster shell reduction at first but once it opens in the glass, characters of lime leaf, lemon zest and pineapple rind float to the fore, followed by green herbs, flint and white spice. The palate is medium in weight and has a lovely texture, thanks to time on lees and partial barrel aging. It’s elegant but a bit reticent. A classy, food-friendly bottling that should blossom in another few years.
Producer Information
Nestled under the southern foothills of Marlborough's Wairau Valley, Clos Henri is the wine estate meticulously established and organically run by the famous Sancerre wine growing family of Henri Bourgeois. Gathering 10 generations of know-how with Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir, the family has broadened their horizons and continue to craft exceptional wines in the New World. From the three different soil types of the estate, the family uses the best of French and New World winegrowing techniques to capture the essence of Marlborough's intense character and reveal the identity and depth of the Clos Henri terroir.
