The 2019 Kamen Estate Cabernet offers a dazzling array of aromatics. Raspberry pie, strawberry compote, espresso bean, candied cherries and marzipan are at the forefront. As the wine evolves in the glass, beautiful notes of violets and lavender pop, elevating the opulent fruit.

Reviews:

• Vinous: The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is mostly Martini clone from the core of the estate. A heady, ample wine, the 2019 is endowed with striking opulence. Blackberry jam, chocolate, spice, new leather, licorice and mocha shows tremendous depth. Attractive floral notes emerge with a bit of aeration, adding brightness. The contours are remarkably soft for a young mountain Cabernet. These wines age beautifully, their youthful opulence notwithstanding, so I would not be in a rush here.

• James Suckling: Alluring, with steeped plum and cassis notes cruising through, backed by lively licorice snap, bramble and sweet tobacco accents. A long echo of singed alder permeates on the finish.

Producer Information

Kamen Estate Wines is a California wine producer located on the southern Mayacamas Mountain range in Sonoma. The estate was purchased in 1980 by Robert Mark Kamen and in 1999, released the first vintage of Cabernet Sauvignon. The Kamen property spans 113 hectares (280 acres) of land and includes steep and rocky terrain, formed by volcanic activity. The site is situated on the southwest slopes of Mount Veeder and Moon Mountain, and was one of the first certified organic vineyards in California. 20ha (50 acres) of the estate is planted to vineyards, with Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Petite Sirah, Grenache, Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier for the production of varietal and blended wines. Kamen's top wine, Kashmir Cuvée, is only produced in exceptional vintages and in tiny quantities. It is sourced hand-harvest from a blend of the best lots of Cabernet Sauvignon on the estate. In the winery, each lot is fermented and barreled separately before blending. Other notable wines in the collection inlclude the Lava Block, a single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon and the Writer's Block which is a blend of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah.
