        Reviews:

        • Wine Advocate: The 2020 Quite, an old-vine MencĂa cuvĂ©e from vineyards in Valtuille de Abajo and Villadecanes, is lower in alcohol than the 2019 I tasted next to it (13.1%) and has a notably lower pH (3.25), which means more freshness. The differences are vintage related, as the vinification and Ă©levage were similar—natural fermentation in stainless steel and malolactic and nine months aging in used 225-liter oak barriques and oak vats. 2020 was a more reductive year for reds, and this is a little more austere but with subdued floral character and notes of fresh meat and blood with an iron-like sensation (it comes from very red soils rich in iron!). This is more fluid and fresh than the 2019, with a vibrant finish that makes you salivate, more sophisticated and precise.

        Producer Information

Veronica Ortega was born in Cadiz in Southern Spain. Her first interest in wine developed through the first wine of her region - Sherry. She went on to work in Priorat for Daphne Glorian (Clos Erasmus) and Alvaro Palacios. She spent time in New Zealand & Burgundy learning about viticulture. In Burgundy she worked at Comte Armand & Domaine de Romanee Conti. After a further 2 years gaining experience in the Northern RhĂŽne she moved to Bierzo in Spain to set up on her own. Her first four vintages were vinified in the cellar of Raul Perez. Since 2014 she has had her own space to make wine. The region of Bierzo has a long tradition of wine making and is interesting for its geographical location and strong Atlantic influence. Veronica has old Mencia vines in her vineyards and is creating new and exciting wines with these.
