2021 | Opus One | Overture Release

The Overture has a remarkable elegance, complexity and accessibility and has a similar blend of grapes to the Opus One. In the nose, the Overture has beautiful notes of black fruits such as blackberries and cherry, plum, leather and tobacco. The wood aging integrates the flavors and scents and adds beautiful nuances of vanilla and toasted oak. In the mouth, the wine is extremely elegant with a sensual mouthfeel.

Reviews:

• Decanter: A multi-vintage blend of mostly 2018 and some 2017, this is a fine, fruity and extremely likable second wine from Opus. It has good construction on the palate with blackcurrants, Morello cherries and soft wood spicing with concentration and drive. The aromas and flavours open and evolve after a few minutes in the glass giving succulent sweet cherry and blueberry notes alongside some savoury olive and ash elements.

• Jancis Robinson: Very dark – blackish – crimson with a pale rim. Mellow, ripe, utterly Napa Valley nose but without excessive concentration. Really delightful to drink now with some (but not excessive) sweetness, a bit of inkiness and mellow mulberry fruit. Long follow-through and the merest hint of rusty nails on the end.

Opus One is a partnership founded by Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Chateau Mouton Rothschild in Pauillac, France, and renowned Napa Valley vintner, Robert Mondavi. Producing luxury wines from its Napa Valley vineyards, the partnership made its first vintage in 1979 and has made wine at Opus One since 1991. The facial profile of the two founders is visible on their iconic label.The essence of time is expressed in Opus One wine by the character of each vintage.
