In contrast to the lighter, less-juniper driven gins that have come to define the Modern Style, the Big Gin brand has moved towards the traditional London dry-style that seeks a full, robust flavor (hence, the "big" in "Big Gin"). The flagship product, Big Gin, uses eight botanicals in addition to juniper: coriander, orange peel, grains of paradise, angelica, cassia, cardamom, orris, & Tasmanian pepper berry. Bottled at 47% ABV.
Captive Spirits Big Gin London Dry | 1L Tasting Note
Nose: Bright, fresh citrus notes upfront, mixed with coriander, a little vanilla, and then a little menthol and black pepper.
Palate: A good amount of spiciness cinnamon and cardamom that moves onto juniper and angelica. Then, like the nose, there is some bright citrus.
Finish: A dry finish with hints of pepper and menthol from the Grains of Paradise and Tasmania pepperberry.
