Crafted to commemorate Kavalan’s 15th anniversary, this single vintage release has been aged in Oloroso sherry casks since 2009, allowing it to develop a deep, multi-layered profile filled with rich dried fruits, warm spices, and dark chocolate. This limited-edition Taiwanese single malt is non-chill filtered and bottled at cask strength, preserving its full-bodied richness and complexity.

Kavalan 15th Anniversary Oloroso Sherry Cask Single Malt Whisky Tasting Notes

Nose: Rich sherry influence with layers of dried fruit, milk plum, tangerine peel, black dates, and candied cherries. Hints of citrus, caramel sweetness, raisins, and almonds lead into elegant vanilla and tropical fruit aromas.

Palate: Dark chocolate and espresso notes blend with caramelized brown sugar and rich woody undertones. Delicate tannins intertwine with cinnamon, cloves, and a velvety mouthfeel.

Finish: Warm and long-lasting, featuring spiced oak, chocolate, and lingering sherry sweetness.

Distillery Information

Kavalan is a whisky distillery founded in 2005 in Yilan County, Taiwan. It released its first bottling in 2008, and quickly gained international acclaim, with one expression delicated as the "new whisky of the year" in Jim Murray's Whisky Bible in 2012. The Kavalan Podium Single Malt in the flagship offering from Kavalan of which is aged in both brand new and older American oak casks. Water for the mashing process is sourced from both the Central Mountains and the Snow Mountains. This pure glacial water consistently creates a smooth and mellow flavor profile of the single malt. The hot temperatures of Taiwan speeds up the maturation process for the whisky in barrel as the the spirit is able to extract from the oak at a faster rate. The Kavalan Oloroso utilizes old sherry casks for aging and ex-bourbon oak is also sourced for select whiskies from Kavalan. The company is named after the Kavalan people, the indigenous inhabitants of the Yilan plain, and is owned by food and beverage producer King Car Group.
